Nguyen Binh Minh, 27, from the south central province of Binh Thuan, enlisted the help of Nguyen Truong An, 20 and Le Trung Hai, 17, both locals, to kidnap a 3-month-old adopted child of Ho Thi Mang, 44, in Xuan Loc District of the province.

Minh planned the kidnapping after Mang, an acquaintance of his, said she couldn’t find him an adopted child as he wanted.

An and Hai were promised VND1 million (US$54) each for their assistance.

Minh asked to stay at Mang’s house for a few days, and tried to sedate her so that the other two could help him escape with the child.

After they failed twice, they doubled the dose last Saturday, but the mother managed to wake up when they and the child were still in the neighborhood.

Minh was caught by local residents while An and Hai escaped and caught later by police.

Information about Minh’s marriage status and condition was not released.
