Vietnam News Bridge – About 900 overseas Vietnamese from 52 nations and territories will attend the first overseas Vietnamese meeting which will be held from 21-23 November.
There are also 500 domestic Vietnamese, raising the total delegates at the meeting to 1,400. Overseas entrepreneurs account for half of the overseas Vietnamese delegates.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien, deputy head of the meeting's organising committee said: "This is the first time a large-scale meeting for overseas Vietnamese has ever been held. The meeting opens a series of activities that aim to strengthen the close relationship with overseas Vietnamese in accordance with the Poliburo Resolution 36-NQ/TW."
According to deputy chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Tran Trong Toan, the objective of the three-day meeting is to gain a comprehensive view of the overseas Vietnamese community, as well as to evaluate the efficiency of the Party and State's policies towards overseas Vietnamese.
"The meeting will serve as the foundation to determine new policies in order to establish a united and strong community of overseas Vietnamese which will hold a good position in their countries of living, that are still closely attached to their motherland," Toan said.
Themed, "For a united and strong community that will positively contribute to the cause of building the country", the meeting will express national unity, and act as the focal point for outstanding representatives of overseas Vietnamese worldwide.
Two main issues that will be discussed during the meeting are community building and national development. There will be four concurrent seminars about establishing an overseas Vietnamese community, preserving and promoting cultural values and national traditions among overseas Vietnamese and the contribution of overseas Vietnamese specialists, intellectuals and entrepreneurs to building the country.
Among the activities, there will be a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.
It is estimated that about 4 million Vietnamese residents live and work overseas with 300,000 having higher education qualifications.
