The Ho Chi Minh City-based 5-star Movenpick Hotel Saigon has announced it will remain closed for five months from March 8 this year to undergo a US$15 million revamp.

The 251-room property would have a further 29 rooms when it reopens in August, Dominik Stamm, its general manager, told Thoi Bao Kinh Te Sai Gon (Saigon Economic Times) newspaper.

The hotel began its refurbishment last June even while receiving guests, but has decided to close to speed up the work, he said.

The hotel was known as the Omni Hotel Saigon until 2008 when Swiss hotel operator Movenpick Hotels & Resorts took over the management and renamed it.

Movenpick Hotels & Resorts operates or is set to operate more than 90 hotels in 26 countries.
