HANOI – The number of jobless workers requiring unemployment subsidies in Hanoi has surged drastically in recent months as production firms scaled down or even shut down their business due to economic downturn.
Regulations governing unemployment insurance needed to be modified to better match the needs of the workplace, while businesses and employees needed to be better informed about labour policies, said Nguyen Dai Dong, director of the Ministry of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs (MOLISA)'s Employment Department.
Many workers covered by unemployment insurance failed to receive allowances or assistance for vocational training after being laid-off, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs admitted.
