Writers’ temple to display bronze drums

One hundred bronze drums cast by traditional artisans in Thanh Hoa Province will go on display at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on August 29 to mark the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, reports VietnamPlus.

At the display opening the largest drum with carvings of 1,000 dragons will be presented as a gift to Hanoi. The traditional craftsmen who made the drums will attend the handing-over ceremony.

The 100 drums will be presented to 63 provinces and cities and 37 enterprises, business and individuals in the country after the festival. .

The instruments were cast at two workshops owned by artisans Thieu Quang Tung and Nguyen Minh Tuan in Thanh Hoa from December 22 last year to August 10.

Each drum weighs 50 kilograms and is 60 centimeters in diameter and 48 centimeters high. On the sides are square seals with images of two dragons, Khue Van Cac Temple and the words “Dai Le 1,000 Thang Long – Hanoi” (1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi Festival).

The largest drum with the 1000 dragon carvings is one meter in diameter, 79 centimeters tall. All of the instruments are replicas of Quang Xuong, Hoang Ha, Ngoc Lu and Dong Son bronze drums.

After being displayed at the temple, they will be used in performances at the festival.
