Nguyen Hue Flower Street, the city’s number one highlight during the Lunar New Year festival, wrapped up last Thursday and welcomed over a million local and foreign visitors.

Head of the organizing committee Tran Hung Viet said that during the seven day event the one-kilometer-long flower street stretching from the front of the HCMC People’s Committee to the corner of Nguyen Hue Boulevard and Ton Duc Thang Street was full of visitors. Despite the large number of visitors, the many flowers and decorative items remained intact as organizers beefed-up security from last year.

“There were hundreds of thousands of guests daily but we recorded just five or six cases of wallets or cell-phones stolen which was a sharp reduction compared to last year,” Viet said.

With the theme ‘Vietnam – My homeland’, the street displayed around 120,000 flower vases and decorative items from January 20 to 26 (the 27th day of the lunar December to the fourth day of the lunar January).
