Vietnam helps Cambodian flood victims

Vietnamese Minister Counsellor Lai Xuan Chien in Cambodia on Oct. 21 handed over 100,000 USD as relief aid to help Cambodian people overcome the aftermath of recent floods.

Also at the ceremony, for the same purpose, the Vietnam Bank for Investment and Development (BIDV) donated 100 tonnes of rice, 60,000 textbooks, 60,000 pens, 40 tonnes of salt and 5,000 sets of clothes to the Cambodian people.

All donations will be given to Cambodian people in Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, and Svay Rieng provinces.

Secretary General of the Cambodian Red Cross Pum Chanity thanked the Vietnamese Government and people and BIDV for their assistance, saying that the relief aid is a clear symbol of the traditional friendship between the two neighbouring countries.

Hundreds of Cambodian people in many provinces were killed in the country’s floods this month. According to the Cambodian National Committee on Disaster Prevention and Control, the floods – the worst in 10 years – submerged 15 provinces and cities in Cambodia, damaged 291,000 hectares of rice and affected 215,662 families./.
