Vietnam, France beef up transport cooperation

The Vietnamese Government wants to expand cooperation with France in training managers for the transport sector, said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.

At a Jan. 13 meeting with French Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing Thierry Mariani, who is on a visit to Vietnam from Jan. 13-15, Deputy PM Hai spoke highly of the comprehensive, close and effective cooperation between the two countries’ transport sectors, especially in railway, aviation and urban transport.

He used the occasion to ask the French side to share its experience with Vietnam in managing public-private partnership (PPP) infrastructure projects.

For his part, Minister Thierry Mariani said during his visit, the two sides sought measures to speed up the implementation of several projects using French loans in Vietnam .

They agreed to expand new training models for Vietnamese officials in aviation, navigation, railway and urban transport.

France will dispatch a delegation of experts to help Vietnam improve capacity in managing PPP projects, the French Minister said./.
