Two Vietnamese-American female students have been rescued after their car ended up in Lake Ray Hubbard early Saturday morning, according to a report by ABC news.
The accident occured when their car drove down a boat ramp and into the water while the driver was talking to her father on the phone.
Fortunately, Kevin Rowan, a local police official, spotted the car’s brake lights above the water when he was doing a routine patrol at 1 a.m. that day.
ABC reported that Rowan took off his utility belt and managed to swim out to the vehicle and break a rear window to get them out.
Then, he held onto both women and managed to swim back to the shore, the newspaper added.
The survivors, who were identified later as Nhi Tran and her cousin Ngoc Do are currently studying at Richland University, a local community college in Texas, say they were heading home after an evening out when they got lost.
Deputy Rowan told Daily Mail: 'I saw the two females in the back seat. They were screaming "Help me, help me." And they were telling me at the same time 'I can't swim'."
"That's the whole reason why I do this job, to help people, it makes me feel awesome," he added.
Meanwhile, Do Ngoc said: "I was thinking I was going to die."
