Two natural phenomena to occur in June
The Secretary General of the Vietnam Astronomy and Cosmography Association, Nguyen Duc Phuong, says the best time to watch the natural phenomenon will be at 1am (Hanoi time) on August 13.
A meteor shower is a celestial event in which many meteors radiate from a single point in the night sky. These meteors are caused by streams of cosmic debris, called meteoroids, entering the Earth’s atmosphere on parallel trajectories at extremely high speeds.
A number of other interesting natural phenomena will also occur in August. The moon will be near the two planets Jupiter and Venus and the star Spica soon after sunset on August 21-22,.
On August 24, Neptune will be the closest to Earth in its orbit in 2012, which is a good opportunity for astronomers to observe the blue planet.
People in Vietnam and many countries around the world witnessed a special astronomical event last June when the planet Venus traversed across the face of the sun for seven hours. During that time, Venus appeared as a black dot silhouetted against the Sun.
