Frenchman François Lausseur attracts the curiosity of many passersby in Ho Chi Minh City as he navigates the city traffic on a vehicle he manufactured himself.
The vehicle has only one wheel and runs on batteries. Other parts like the horn, speedometer, lights and a bag are installed under the seat.
The rider needs to be on roller skates.
According to Nguoi Lao Dong reporter’ observation, the bike runs smoothly from Truong Chinh to Nguyen Hue, Le Loi, Ham Nghi Street without producing engine noise.
Lausseur said he created the vehicle when he was in France to transport supplies to picnic sites. Originally without an engine, the bike had to be manually pushed from behind. So he went online to consult ideas to improve his special bike.
In the beginning of 2011, he met Philippe, who is a French director of an electric bicycle company in the city. The two worked together to turn the vehicle into transporting people.
According to Lausseur, the bike can run at 40kmh on the 48V battery and 55kmh on the 72V one. The battery needs to be recharged after 25-30 kilometers.
Lausseur said besides transporting a person of less than 40 kilos in the front, he can pull a companion along in the back as long as he or she wears roller skates.
