-- The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment yesterday set up an inspection team to look into the land clearance scam in Tien Lang District of the northern Hai Phong City after the land user Doan Van Vuon denounced local authorities destroyed his assets.
-- Authorities of 11 districts in Ho Chi Minh City have been required by the city’s People’s Committee to make explanations about their failure in the implementation of the city’s decisions on the settlement of disputes and complaints lodged by local people.
-- Deputy office manager of the Department of Transport of Kien Giang Province, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Diep, was expelled from the Party for bearing a debt of VND8 billion ($381,000) and illegally assigning ownership of agricultural projects in Long Xuyen.

-- Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Province, Nguyen Van Cao, yesterday announced to start 2012 as the Year of National Tourism with a theme “Hue, ancient capital, new experience”. The locality and surrounding provinces are expected to host series of cultural events this year.
-- Hanoi police yesterday nabbed a man at Nuoc Ngam bus station for illegally transporting 10kg of gold bullion. Dang Minh Tuan, 26, declared to police that he was hired to carry the goods from Nghe An to Hanoi for a fee of VND1 million (US$48). However, police identified that the gold was smuggled from a foreign nation into Vietnam.
-- In March, the central Da Nang City is to test run its first-ever plant to produce kerosene from nylon and other wastes from rubber origin. The $26.2 million facility is able to produce 3 tons of kerosene a day. Equipment of the plant is designed and installed by Vietnamese engineers.
-- Hundreds of buses have been fined for overloading and over-speeding during the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival when workers returned to their home town to celebrate the holiday.
-- Another two fuel stations in Ho Chi Minh City have been fined and withdrawn certificates for cheating customers in fuel quality. So far, the city has disbanded nine fuel stations.

-- Ca Mau Fertilizer Plant -- a unit of the Ca Mau Gas, Power and Fertilizer Project under the Petro Vietnam -- yesterday announced its first batch of commercial product. The US$800 million plant is located on an area of 62 hectares and is designed to produce 800,000 tons of urea a year, meeting 40 percent of demand of the nation.
-- State bank governor Nguyen Van Binh predicts the banking interest rate in Vietnam may be pulled down to 10 percent a year by the end of this year.
