HCMC – A representative of Google in South East Asia shared his optimistic view on Vietnam market in a seminar on export solutions and online marketing on Wednesday, citing the increasing number of Internet users in the country.

Ghislain Le Chatelier told the seminar “Export Solutions and Online Marketing Applications for enterprises” that he saw big potential in the market where internet users are growing rapidly to around 26 million internet users now.

The head of Online Sales and Operations for South East Asia of Google said that e-commerce that is growing quickly in Vietnam will also support the online marketing and advertising.

“I’m very optimistic with the trends that more and more people are going to do their exports online,” he told the seminar held by the Emerald Consulting in HCMC on Wednesday.

According to one exporter, in comparison with direct marketing, online marketing and advertising are cheaper with measurable results.

In a survey revealed by Google about consumer’s habit of purchase, the average time that a Vietnamese spends on the internet a month is 36 hours, or 2.5 times more than the amount of time he/she spends on television.

Nevertheless, the biggest blockage remains in payment system in Vietnam in relation with security issue and the low rate of credit cards users.

Le Chatelier also noted that local enterprises shouldn’t think that online marketing and advertising only fit international contracts. “The local market with a population of more than 86 millions and tens of millions of internet users can be a treasure if they know how to use the marketing tools,” he added.

Le Chatelier said the potential for online marketing “is attractive enough for more investment and time-spending.”

At the seminar, Google also introduced the Google AdWords as the application for small and medium Vietnamese enterprises. The application helps user display their ads on Google as well as on partner sites.
