HCMC - Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) authorities on Friday opened a training campus inside the zone in the city’s District 9, on the occasion of the park’s 8th anniversary.

The VND67-billion project, covering an area of nearly 37,000 square meters, has four main buildings, including an administration being a four-floor building with  six training rooms, a 200-seat lecture hall, a meeting room, multi-media lab and a medical room; a training building with nine classrooms; and three teacher rooms.

The campus also has a training and lab building with five labs, four pre-labs, four classrooms and two teacher rooms; a food court and library; and a public stadium. In the near future, the authorities will develop a dormitory and a yard for outdoor activities.

Le Thai Hy, head of the park, said that SHTP Training Center, established in 2005, was one of the three main components of the park, helping the park to achieve its strategic goal of becoming an innovation, R&D hub in 2020.

“The grand opening of SHTP Training Campus, together with the recent opening of two more training facilities including the training center for automation and information technology, and the training center of micro-electronics and semi-conductor within the campus, will further tighten the cooperation between SHTP Training with its tenants and partners,” Hy said.

He added that the cooperation would truly master the “enterprise-centered” requirements for human resources in hi-tech environment.

The opening also shows the park’s strong commitment to joining hands with the city to realize the socio-economic development plan in the 2011-2015 period, of which human resource improvement is of prime importance in the six key programs to implement the plan.

He said that in the time to come, SHTP Training will continue to work with the National University of HCMC, SHTP tenants and training partners, local and foreign alike, to develop and offer complementary and preparatory training courses.

After five years of development, SHTP Training Center has offered more than 300 courses to 4,000 students, customized courses in soft skills, technical skills and technical English to enterprises including 10 technical curriculums tailored for this segment.

The center has also worked closely with companies in SHTP to establish a Training Consortium, and partnered with the National University of HCMC to develop an advanced technology faculty in the park as well as entered numerous partnerships with capable foreign and local partners to accumulate experience.

SHTP is currently home to 44 investors with total investment capital of US$1.85 billion, of which eight projects are in the area of Research & Development and training. The total export revenue in the January-September period has reached over US$329 million.

From the start of 2010, SHTP has issued four new investment licenses with the total investment capital of US$87.5 million.

At the park’s 8th anniversary, SHTP authorities also held a job bazaar with the participation of hi-tech businesses operating at Saigon Hi-Tech Park to attract people, most of them technology students.
