The second annual Nuclear Power Asia 2011 conference opened in Hanoi
on January 18, drawing the participation of over 120 delegates from
Asian countries.
The two-day conference aims to
create opportunities for State management agencies, nuclear power
experts and businesses in Vietnam to exchange information and learn
from the experience of advanced countries about key issues relating to
nuclear power projects.
Participants at the event
discussed the prospects and role of nuclear power, nuclear power
development in the region, opportunities for cooperation programmes and
resources and technology in this field.
They said
that nuclear power development will help diversify power supplies,
strengthen energy security and ensure the rational use of local
resources while boosting the development of many other industries and
economic sectors.
It will also reduce polluting gas emissions, meet the national energy demand and preserve fossil fuels, they added.
According to Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Vietnam is urgently
making preparations to begin construction of the Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear
Power Plant in 2014 and put its first turbine into operation in 2020./.
