PM wants tighter control over spread of bird flu
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has sent an urgent message asking local authorities to double efforts to control outbreaks of bird flu in 11 provinces across the country.
HA NOI — President Nguyen Minh Triet yesterday welcomed Thongvin Phomvihan, wife of the late secretary general of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Caysone Phomvihan.
Triet said the visit of Thongvin Phomvihan to Viet Nam affirmed the close relationship between Viet Nam and Laos, nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and her husband, who was also the late Lao president.
The parties, states and peoples of the two nations were determined to promote and cement the ties, he said.
Triet said he hoped Thongvin Phomvihan, whose Vietnamese name is Chi Bay, would make regular visits to Viet Nam.
Thongvin Phomvihan thanked President Triet and leaders of Vietnamese Party and State for their affection for Laos and its people.
She said the relationship between the two countries was flourishing thanks to the close ties and friendship between the two parties, states and peoples in resistance wars.
During the renewal and development process, Vietnamese people were still standing side by side and providing support to their Laos counterparts, she said, expressing her belief that ties would be remain steadfast. — VNS
