VNA boosts ties with Lao news agency

VIENTIANE — The Viet Nam News Agency (VNA) has been called upon to continue assisting the Laos News Agency (KPL) in the fields of personnel training and technical support.

Lao Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Bosengkham Vongdala made the statement at a reception yesterday for VNA Deputy General Director Nguyen Hoai Duong during his five-day trip to Laos.

Vongdala praised the VNA's assistance over the past years and expressed his hope that Laos would soon open a representative office in Ha Noi alongside issuing the Viet Nam Pictorial magazine in the Lao language.

Duong in turn applauded bilateral co-operation in areas of information and image exchange, high-level officials and reporter interaction, the publishing of a book entitled "VNA and KPL – Years of mutual development" and the posting of Lao newspapers to VNA websites.

He also spoke of results gained via talks with KPL representatives, led by General Director Khamsen Phongsa.

The two sides agreed to boost the exchange of journalists and enhanced information regarding the two countries and people as well as their economic and trade co-operation activities alongside cultural and art exchanges in 2012.

On this occasion, Duong expressed his hope that Lao leaders would create favourable conditions for the VNews channel to start broadcasting on Lao cable networks. — VNS
