Vietnam’s naval ships anchor off Cambodian shore

Two Vietnamese naval ships dropped anchor at the Sihanouk port city in Preah Sihanouk province Friday, beginning a four-day visit to Cambodia.

This is the first official visit to the Angkor Wat country by the Vietnamese naval force, led by a Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, Captain Nguyen Van Kiem, to strengthen traditional friendship between the naval forces of the two countries.

The Vietnamese delegation was welcomed by Vice Governor of Preah Sihanouk province Meas Vuthy and Rear Admiral Ruas Viasana of the Cambodian naval force.

At the greeting ceremony, the host emphasised friendship between the two navies and attached primary importance to traditional relations between the two nations.

The Vietnamese head delegate said the visit marked a step forward in relations between the armed forces, especially between the naval forces, of the two countries.

Kiem added that strengthening relations for mutual development and stability should be of Vietnam and Cambodia’s common interest.

The Vietnamese naval delegation is scheduled to leave for Phnom Penh later in the day, call on at the General Command and the Naval Command of the Cambodian Royal Army and pay a courtesy visit to Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Minister of Defence Tea Banh.

The Vietnamese guests will also visit the Command of the Ream Naval Base where crews of the two Vietnamese naval ships will join in friendly sports and games matches with the host naval units.
