Preparations for congress reviewed

HA NOI — The Political Bureau representatives yesterday wrapped up a three-day meeting with Party committees of six provinces on preparations for their Party congresses.

The provinces of Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Tay Ninh, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc presented their draft political reports and lists of candidates for their upcoming congresses.

President Nguyen Minh Triet, on bahalf of the Politburo said he appreciated the committees' efforts in drafting the reports and ensuring the gender and ethnic balance of personnel.

However, he asked the committees to continue completing their reports and selection of personnel to ensure the success of their congresses, which would be a prerequisite for the fulfilment of targets set by the localities and would contribute to the country's renewal and development process.

He required the committees to improve their leadership and promote the exemplar roles of Party members, consolidate the people's confidence in the Party's leadership and boost the movement "Following and learning Ho Chi Minh's moral example".

The committees were also asked to create a breakthrough in administrative reforms, enhance personnel training and take care of ethnic minorities.

Triet agreed with the provinces' personnel selection and congress organisation schedules.

He also applauded the province's achievements in economics, culture, education, health care, national defence and Party building work over the past five years.

Triet asked Binh Thuan and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces to continue promoting their coastal tourism potential and developing their marine economies while protecting the ecological environment.

Central Binh Thuan Province was told to focus on agricultural production, especially dragonfruit, and to limit black sand exploitation for export to prevent the degradation of the environment and negative impacts on the tourism industry.

Southern Binh Duong Province, with its high competitiveness in industries and services, must continue restructuring its economy toward developing industries that added value and were technologically intensive and environmentally friendly, as well as improving high quality human education and training.

The province should have plans to relocate its southern industrial zones to the north of the province and turn some industrial zones into urban areas, he said.

Triet stressed that southwestern Tay Ninh Province needed to continue developing its advantages as a border locality and push the construction of Moc Bai and Xa Mat border gate economic zones, plus increase its exports of competitive products such as rubber, handicrafts; and limiting rude materials export.

Southern Dong Nai Province was asked to give priority to the development of advantageous services industries as well as paying attention to inspecting and examining enterprise compliance with environmental protection regulations.

Southern Binh Phuoc Province was urged to speed up the development of industry and services sectors and the reform of administration procedures, enhance its provincial competitiveness index, create favourable conditions for investment and focus on forest protection and the exploitation of its forest economy. — VNS
