HA NOI — Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong praised the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for its efforts to educate and provide guidance to young people during his meeting with the union's leaders and other relevant governmental agencies yesterday.
Nguyen Dac Vinh, Secretary of the Central Communist Youth Union, reported to party leader Trong about recent activities of the Youth Union, such as various programs to teach young people good morals and increase their awareness of problems plaguing the society.
However, Vinh said the union acknowledged the changing world young people must navigate and sought to improve communication with the local level in order to gain more support for their activities.
Party Secretary Trong acknowledged that young people are critically important for the long-term development of the country, and that the union plays an important role in educating the future members of the party.
Trong called on the Union to be at the centre of the nation's young people movement to guide their political thought and ideologies in alignment with the party.
Deputy PM receives Cambodian culture and arts minister
HA NOI — Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed his wish to increase the cultural and artistic exchange between Viet Nam and Cambodia during his meeting with Cambodian Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Him Chhem yesterday.
The Deputy PM said in addition to trade and economic cooperation, cultural and artistic exchange played an important role in fostering relationship between the two countries.
Deputy PM Nhan hoped that both sides would continue to promote cultural exchanges, especially between bordering provinces and reaffirmed Viet Nam's willingness to accept Cambodian students to study language, culture and the arts.
Cambodian Minister Him Chhem agreed and said that Cambodia would soon send 30 actors and actresses to perform in Viet Nam.
Cambodian army leader visits to discuss security measures
HA NOI — Lieutenant-General Do Ba Ty, chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People's Army, yesterday met with General Hing Bun Heang, Deputy Commander in Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Bodyguard Unit in Ha Noi.
On behalf of Viet Nam's Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant-General Ty said the country has always attached great importance to the ongoing friendship between Viet Nam and Cambodia and the two countries' armies.
General Hing Bun Heang said the visit allowed the Cambodian delegation to learn about and exchange ideas on security provisions for high-ranking party and government officials, as well as how to maintain the security of important political and international events. — VNS
