International conference in Laos commences

HA NOI — Viet Nam would always remember the support it received from the Lao Government and people during its difficult fight for independence, Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat said yesterday.

He made the statement at an international science conference held in Laos on the Viet Nam – Laos alliance during the battle against American imperialists on the Plain of Jars in Xiang Khoaung Province.

Conference participants also included Bounnhang Volachit, Politburo member, permanent member of the Lao Party Central Committee's Secretariat and Vice President; Samane Vinyaket, Vice President of Laos; and To Huy Rua, Politburo member and Secretary and head of the Publicity and Education Commission of the Party Central Committee.

Samane Vinyaket said that the Cu Kiet - Plain of Jars/Xieng Khouang campaign was an important campaign that showed the close alliance between Viet Nam and Laos. He said the conference needed to develop lessons that could orient future co-operation between the two countries.

Viet Nam – Cambodia discuss defence deal

HA NOI — A delegation of high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Defence, led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh, visited Cambodia on September 12 and 13 to discuss national defence co-operation between the two countries.

The delegation also held meetings with the Cambodian Ministry of Defence to consult on its preparations for the coming ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) with partner countries.

Cambodia's Secretary of State on national defence Neang Phat affirmed that Cambodia would co-operate closely with Viet Nam to successfully organised the meeting.

Vinh said he highly valued Cambodia's role in the ADMM, adding that it was one of many co-operation activities between the two countries in national defence and security.

Training course for Lao cadres kicks off

HA NOI — A training course in politics and public administration for Lao teachers opened yesterday at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration in Ha Noi.

During the three-month course, the teachers will study special topics on Marxist – Leninism and Ho Chi Minh ideology.

They will also attend courses on positive teaching skills, such as visualisation in teaching, presentation skills, questions and answers, and quick interview. Field trips will be organised to many political schools in cities and provinces, including Ha Noi, Hai Duong, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thua Thien-Hue and Binh Dinh. — VNS
