HA NOI — Strengthening co-operation between Guangxi and localities in Viet Nam, particularly border provinces, will contribute to the development of ties between Viet Nam and China.

President Nguyen Minh Triet made the remark while receiving Governor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Ma Biao, in Ha Noi yesterday.

Triet expressed his pleasure at the growing traditional friendship between the Parties, States and peoples of Viet Nam and China, including the ties between Vietnamese localities and Guangxi. He affirmed that Viet Nam would make every effort to foster the comprehensive co-operative strategic partnership between the nations.

Governor Ma said he hoped Guangxi and Viet Nam's provinces and cities would continue to strengthen multifaceted co-operation in the near future, especially in the improvement of infrastructure in border areas and raising awareness among young people about the traditional friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the two countries.

He also proposed that the two countries should closely co-operate in organising the ASEAN-China Trade Fair by the end of this year.

Fifty-four trade, investment and credit co-operation projects worth US$1.9 billion were signed during an economic-trade forum between Viet Nam and China 's Guangxi province in Ha Noi last Friday.

The projects involve mechanical engineering, machinery, cement, urban infrastructure, wind power, irrigation and hydropower.

Speaking to more than 1,000 delegates, which included senior government officials and businesspeople, President of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Vu Tien Loc affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always attaches importance to developing their friendship with China. Loc said the country will do its utmost to foster bilateral ties, particularly in economic, trade and investment relations with Guangxi province.

The VCCI President spoke highly of the dynamic co-operation between Vietnamese and Guangxi businesses. He expressed his belief that Viet Nam's business environment will help ensure that Guangxi's investors are successful.

Loc said he hoped that through the forum, Guangxi businesses will boost their trade and investment co-operation with their Vietnamese counterparts to improve the trade balance between the two nations.

According to Chinese Ambassador to Viet Nam Sun Guoxiang, the economic-trade co-operation between Guangxi and Viet Nam has rapidly developed. Viet Nam has become Guangxi's largest trade partner with two-way trade surpassing $4 billion in 2009. The figure exceeded $2 billion during the first half of this year, accounting for nearly 16 per cent of the two countries' trade turnover.

The ambassador affirmed that the Chinese government pays attention to and supports Guangxi businesses' economic-trade co-operation with Viet Nam and will continue to facilitate the two sides' businesses during the implementation of co-operation projects.
