HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday said that the positive co-operative results between China's Guangxi Province and Viet Nam's northern border provinces were considerably contributing to the fine co-operation between the two countries.

The Prime Minister made the remarks during his meeting with the Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Ma Biao, in Ha Noi.

Dung expressed his elation over the fruitful relationship between Viet Nam and China.

In 2009, the two-way trade between Guangxi and Viet Nam exceeded US$4 billion, accounting for nearly 20 per cent of the two countries' total trade turnover.

Dung said Viet Nam and China need to continue addressing pending problems to foster trade and commerce for their mutual benefit. He also agreed with Ma Biao's proposals concerning measures to develop co-operation between Viet Nam and Guangxi, including building a transport system linking Guangxi with Viet Nam's provinces, creating a border economic zone, fostering tourism and education co-operation.

Ma Biao said that during this visit, Guangxi and Vietnamese enterprises would sign about 50 trade co-operation agreements with a total turnover worth $1.8 billion.

On the same day, Ma Biao met with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, who said that VIet Nam had set up plans to construct economic co-operation zones in Dong Dang - Piangxiang and Mong Cai - Dongxing.

Nhan said he hoped China would co-operate in building infrastructure and transport systems in these areas to facilitate co-operation.
