PHNOM PENH — National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung told the President of the Cambodian Senate, Chea Sim, yesterday, that Viet Nam's priority was to strengthen traditional friendship and co-operation with Cambodia.
He stressed the similarities and difficulties of the two countries throughout history, adding that both sides needed to tighten solidarity, promote co-operative projects, thus contributing to maintaining peace, stability in the region and the world.
He briefed Chea Sim on talks with King Norodom Sihamoni, National Assembly President Heng Samrin and Prime Minister Hun Sen, saying the two sides agreed to continue fostering the special friendship.
Chea Sim said the visit by the Vietnamese delegation was a milestone in deepening co-operation.
He said that based on this firm, traditional foundation, the two sides should actively exchange delegations, accelerate agreements in all fields, including politics, diplomacy, security, defence, socio-economics and especially close co-operation between the two legislative bodies.
Chairman Hung and the President of the Cambodian National Assembly, Heng Samrin, co-chaired a Viet Nam-Cambodia Business Forum. More than 400 businesses from the two countries took part.
Addressing the event, Hung said he was pleased with the strong development of the Cambodian economy and the improvement of living conditions and laws, describing them as good signals for the two countries to promote two-way investment.
Heng Samrin said the forum, held ahead of the 32nd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-32), was a good opportunity to promote Viet Nam's investment in Cambodia.
He promised to create favourable conditions for investors.
The Cambodian NA President suggested Vietnamese businesses tune into Cambodia 's key fields such as agriculture, agricultural product processing, mining, services, banking, securities, science and technology and tourism.
On the same day, Chairman Hung visited the Viet Nam-invested Vinacomin Rethy brick and tile production company in Sihanoukville, southern Cambodia. — VNS
