Jazz outfit ‘unit asia’ comes to city

The city’s Ben Thanh Theater hosts a mouth-watering performance by Jazz band unit asia on Sunday.

The gig and a show in Tuoi Tre Theater in Hanoi on Friday are part of the band’s Southeast Asian Tour 2012 which is organized by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, Yamaha and the consulate general of Japan in HCMC.

Prior to the concerts in Vietnam, unit asia performed in Bangkok last Sunday.

After the Vietnam leg of the tour they will grace Kuala Lumpur on February 9 and Manila on February 13.

The outfit consists of Isao Miyoshi (guitarist), Hiroyuki Noritake (percussionist) and Shigeki Ippon (bassist) from Japan and sax expert Koh Mr. Saxman from Thailand and Malaysian pianist Tay Cher Siang.

Popular Vietnamese singer Tung Duong will perform with the band in Hanoi and HCMC.

“We will present a ‘New unit asia’ to audiences who have been to our previous concerts. It sees us advance further ahead along the evolutionary scale, and brings excitement to those who’ll be hearing us for the very first time,” the band said on their official website.

The concerts will take place at 8 p.m. at Ben Thanh Theater at 6 Mac Dinh Chi Street, District 1, HCMC and at Tuoi Tre Theater, 11 Ngo Thi Nham Street, Hanoi at 7.30 p.m.
