The International School Saigon Pearl (ISSP) will organize a Tet (Lunar New Year) festival in HCMC in January 13 to help its students learn about the traditional time of family union and Vietnam’s culture.
“Ngay Tet Que Em” (Tet days in my hometown) festival is expected to attract over 500 students, their parents and other people in the Saigon Pearl residential area to ring in the Year of the Dragon in 2012.
The festival from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. will be divided into many areas for entertainment activities, art exhibitions and folk classes. A music show by the school’s students will open the event.
A space of craft villages will feature streets of Bat Trang ceramics and Dong Ho paintings, among others. In the street named Ong Do (teacher) participants will admire calligraphies and can get some for free.
The street named Dan Gian will feature some folk games including bamboo dance, foot bridge, tug-of-war, and blindfolding to play drums to reproduce Vietnam’s traditional traits. Parents and students can admire the art of coconut leaves’ arrangement and photo-taking booth at the Art street or learn how to make to he (a traditional toy for children in Vietnam that is made from glutinous rice powder in the form of edible figurines such as animals, flowers or characters), and how to mould the dragon out of clay.
Free admission is for all visitors. ISSP is located in the Saigon Pearl condo complex at 92 Nguyen Huu Canh Street, Binh Thanh District, HCMC, tel: 2222 7788/99.
