The biggest embroidered picture in Vietnam named Coi xua (Ancient roots) is on display at the Viet Xo (Vietnam-Russia) Friendship Cultural Palace at 91 Tran Hung Dao Stree in Hanoi.
The picture contains images of the ancient capital Hoa Lu and important historic landmarks in the dynasties of Dinh, Tien Le and Ly. The picture also features the establishment of the state of Dai Co Viet; Hoa Lu capital’s landscape including two temples worshipping two kings Dinh Tien Hoang and Le Dai Hanh; and the typical traits of the capital’s terrain. The last part is the royal decree by King Ly Cong Uan to move the capital to Thang Long.
The 5.5 by 31m embroidery weighs 1.5 tons and has used nearly 180sq.m of Italian wool and around 250kg of thread. Over 100 artisans worked diligently on the picture and it took them 20,000 days to finish.
Work on the embroidery conducted by artisans of the Coi Xua Handicraft and Export Co started in March 2009 at Van Lam Craft Village in Ninh Binh Province to mark the millennium festival of Thang Long-Hanoi.
