A collage of paintings in the exhibition
An exhibition featuring paintings about the life of Vietnam’s top billionaires will be held in Hanoi next week.
According to an artist, the paintings are created by 12 young artists who use different approaches and styles to explore wealthy people’s roles in supporting the local art industry which is currently in crisis.
While in many countries, the upper class are the main sponsors, investors and buyers of artworks, which helps to develop and maintain an active art market and nurture young talents, the artists said the wealthy in Vietnam were yet to take on this role.
Do Hiep, one of the painters said the local art industry was waiting for generous investors who have taste and are passionate about helping Vietnamese art.
“Of course we want to be able to sell what we paint, but we also hope these billionaires would pay more attention to art than just luxurious cars, yachts or real estate and help to develop it,” Hiep said.
“Vietnam’s Rich Men” will run from January 17, 2012 till February 4, 2012 at Fine Art Exhibition House, 16 Ngo Quyen, Hanoi.
