Digital education institute signs with universities

IT education conference to open on Thursday

Investors in a new IT and digital technology institute in Saigon held a signing ceremony on Tuesday to cooperate with universities in the U.S. and Vietnam to teach the institute’s programs there. 

The investors in the project to build Saigon Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) signed the cooperation agreement with  Northwestern Polytechnic University in the U.S., University of Information Technology in HCMC, Duy Tan University in Danang City and Nguyen Trai University in Hanoi.

“Teaming up with universities and educational institutions across Silicon Valley and Vietnam, SAIT aims to offer latest technologies to clients across Vietnam and to develop a competitive workforce in the country that is prepared to meet the demand of modern high-tech jobs in Vietnam,” said Prof. Dr. Tri Caohuu, one of the project founders.

The agreement would allow SAIT to conduct a Master Program in information technology - Chip Design and VLSI and in Embedded Systems Design at the universities.

Under the program, students would earn U.S. Master Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering after studying for a year in SAIT/UIT campus and another year at Northwestern Polytechnic University campus in California.

From Tuesday, SAIT will offer a number of Diploma programs in electrical and computer engineering for post-graduate students with a strong command of English.

The Institute will be built at Saigon High Tech Park in HCMC, with the first phase starting next year and completing in 2012.

The second phase will see the building of complex with training labs, certification and a design center on 5,000 square meters.

*The sixth International Conference on Information Technology and Education 2010 (IT@EDU 2010) will open on Thursday at the Reunification Palace in downtown HCMC and on Friday in Phan Thiet University in the central coast city of Phan Thiet.  At the conference, representatives from academia, industry, and government will share ideas and experiences on using Information Technology for education and research projects.

The conference, organized by the FPT University and the University of Information Technology in HCMC, will attract more than 300 delegates from the U.S., Canada, France, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and Poland the host country Vietnam. The conference will provide an international forum for researchers, scientists, students, technologists, and industry representatives to present and discuss the latest research findings, developments, applications, and innovations in information technology, telecommunications and e-learning.
