Detectives, witches and immortals to hit screens this month

Vietnamese horror movie “Ngoi Nha Trong Hem” (House in The Alley) will be among the many blockbusters to entertain audiences this month, with its premiere on Valentine's Day, February 14.

Directed by Le Van Kiet, the movie stars well-known local actors including Ngo Thanh Van and Tran Bao Son. It tells the story of how a couple discovers and struggles against supernatural phenomena in their house after the wife has a miscarriage.

As with Bui Thac Chuyen, “Loi Nguyen Huyet Ngai” (Blood Curse), screened last month, “Ngoi Nha Trong Hem” promises to make audiences scream.

For audiences who don’t like ghosts, the comedy movie “Jack and Jill” will be a nice choice while enjoying a special Valentine's Day with their beloveds.

The movie, also premiering on February 14, tells the story of Jack Sadelstein and his annoying twin sister, Jill Sadelstein, and how Jack’s wife healsthe brother and sister’s tense relationship.

Starring Hollywood stars Katie Holmes and Adam Sandler, who plays the roles of both Jack and Jill, this movie will be a meaningful gift on the holiday of love.

Many other blockbusters from Hollywood will also be available in Vietnam this month.

The legendary detective Sherlock Holmes will hit local screens this spring, A sequel to the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, the action mystery film starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Jared Harris features Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson joining forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.

Fans can join the detective’s adventure from February 2.

After a half of year waiting, Vietnamese fans of the young wizard Harry Potter can enjoy the final installment of the Harry Potter film series this month.

Although “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” hit screens around the world last July, its international distributor Warner Bros has just released it in Vietnam this month.

Produced by David Heyman, David Barron, and J. K. Rowling, the story continues to follow Harry Potter's quest to find and destroy Lord Voldemort.

After its worldwide release, the film became a financial success and was one of the best-reviewed films of 2011. At the box office, Part 2 claimed the worldwide opening weekend record, earning $483.2 million, as well as setting opening day and opening weekend records in various countries.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” will screen nationwide from February 3.

One week later, local screens will be hit with the action thriller film “Safe House,” directed by Daniel Espinosa.

Starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, the movie tells of the young house-sitter of a CIA-operated safe house and his task of moving a criminal hidden there to another secure location when the house is attacked by a group of rebel soldiers.

The movie will be released on February 10.

On the same day, the sequel to the 2008 blockbuster “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, the 3D adventure movie “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” by director Brad Peyton will also be a magnet to attract action film fans to cinemas.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, and Disney’s Vanessa Hudgens, the movie promises to thrill audiences with the amazing adventure of 17-year-old Sean Anderson and his family on a mystery island on South Pacific.

The 3D fantasy film “Immortals” directed by Tarsem Singh, telling of the immortals’ war against each other, will also premier this month.

The movie, with Freida Pinto, star of the Oscar winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire” and Kellan Lutz from the renowned Twilight Saga film series, promises to be a must-see movie.

Fans can enjoy the film from February 17.

This month, fans of science fiction films will have chance to see the first episode of the renowned Star Wars series, “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” in 3D from February 17.

This is part of a project to remake Hollywood’s classic movies in 3D, following the success of The Lion King and Beauty and The Beast last year.

Another action movie premiering on February 24 and promising to provide breathtaking scenes is “Man On A Ledge” by Asger Leth.

Featuring Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks and Jamie Bell, the movie tells of Lydia Mercer, a police psychologist racing against time to talk down Nick Cassidy, who is threatening to jump from a Manhattan hotel rooftop, and the simultaneous bust of a historic diamond heist.

Action movie star Nicolas Cage will close this month’s movie screenings with his 3D superhero blockbuster “Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance”.

The movie is a sequel to the 2007 film Ghost Rider, based on the Marvel Comics antihero Ghost Rider. Continuing the story, the film describes protagonist Johnny Blaze’s fight to stop the devil, who is trying to take on the human form of his son.

Screening will begin on February 24.
