Japan helps Hanoi in industrial waste treatment

Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO), in cooperation with the Hanoi authorities and Vietnamese relevant agencies, will to carry out a project on industrial waste treatment for electricity production in Hanoi.

The NEDO-assisted project will be implemented on an area of 1 hectare at the Nam Son waste treatment complex in the suburban district of Soc Son.

The project will build an incinerator with a daily capacity of 75 tonnes of waste, an exhaust fume treatment system and heat recovery system for a 1.2 MW electricity generator, NEDO Chairman Seiji said at a working session between NEDO, the Hanoi People’s Committee and Vietnam ’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in Hanoi on Oct. 15.

It has a total investment of 21 million USD, of which the Japanese side financed 17 million USD.

This is a pilot project using Japan ’s advanced technology in industrial waste treatment for electricity production, ensuring environmental protection and sustainable development, Senji said.

Once successful, it will be expanded to other cities and provinces in Vietnam as well as other countries in Southeast Asia , he added.

The involved parties are expected to complete feasibility study for the project by the end of November, review final assessment during December for the signing of an agreement by the end of this year.

Construction, production, installation, test run and personnel training for the plant will be implemented in 2011 and 2012.

NEDO under Japan ’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is specialised in providing support for study and development and introducing advanced technologies relating to environment, energy and industry around the world./.
