Campaign launched to protect environment

A ceremony will be held in the northern province of Bac Ninh on September 19 to launch a national campaign to make the world cleaner.

A representative from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) told a press briefing on September 14, that to make the 2010 campaign effective, MoNRE has asked relevant ministries, agencies and localities to popularise the Laws on Environmental Protection and Biodiversity to people nationwide.

All the nation’s cities and provinces will call for the public to get involved in environmental protection projects and raise people’s awareness of the importance of biodiversity, the benefits of preserving biodiversity and how to reduce greenhouse gases.

The campaign was first initiated by Australia in 1993 and is launched annually across the world by the UN’s Environment Programme on the third week of every September.

The campaign calls for people to help with environmental protection.

To date, 120 countries worldwide have participated in the campaign, with Vietnam joining in 1994./.
