Duan wins third stage of Delta Cycling Tour

HA NOI — Cyclist Le Van Duan won the third stage of the 19th Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta Cycling Tour – An Giang Plant Protection Cup yesterday, while Nguyen Nam Cuc was awarded the yellow jersey.

Duan, from Sai Gon Plant Protection 1, clocked a top speed of 40.353kmph during the 127km stage from Long Xuyen City of An Giang Province to Rach Gia City in Kien Giang Province. He completed the stage in 3hr 8min 50sec.

Ho Van Phuc of ADC-Vinh Long Television 1 and Domesco Dong Thap's Do Tuan Anh finished second and third, respectively.

Cuc, from Sai Gon Plant Protection 2, keeps the yellow jersey for a best overall time of 8:08.31, followed him by Dang Trung Hieu of Can Tho City and Lam Cong Danh of An Giang Plant Protection who finished first in the second stage on Sunday.

The green jersey for the most points went to Duan's teammate Mai Nguyen Hung, who has earned 40 points.

Cuc's success helped his team top the leader board. Sai Gon Plant Protection 2 won the race for a combined time of 24:33.38, followed by the Military Zone 7 and ADC-Vinh Long Television.

Today, cyclists will compete in the 140km stage from Rach Gia City to Soc Trang City.

The annual competition for male cyclists, which debuted in 1992, will take in 11 cities and provinces. — VNS
