Russian tourists to flock to Danang

HCMC – After Binh Thuan and Khanh Hoa, the coastal city of Danang has become a destination for Russian tourists as some 36,000 Russians will arrive in the city on chartered flights between March and September this year.

Hoang Thi Phong Thu, chairwoman of Anh Duong Co., said her company is preparing to serve visitors from eight cities of Russia to Danang from March.

“We have just signed a deal with Pegas Touristik Company to jointly carry out this business deal. In six months’ time, there will be a flight carrying about 200 passengers from Russia to Danang every day,” she told the Daily on Tuesday.

Under the tour program to Danang City, tourists will go on a 10-to-12-day trip and stay at resorts from three to five stars in Danang and Hoi An.

Previously, Anh Duong Co. also signed a business cooperation contract with the Moscow-based Turkish Pegas Touristik, which specializes in organizing outbound tours for Russians, to bring tourists to Cam Ranh International Airport on chartered flights to visit Nha Trang and Binh Thuan.

Such a program was kicked off in October, 2011 and planned for wrap-up in May this year, but Thu said Pegas Touristik would continue to arrange tours to Khanh Hoa this summer instead of finishing in May as originally planned.

Anh Duong Co. has recently signed another contract with Pegas Touristik to become exclusive agent of the Turkish partner in Vietnam until 2013.

“The Russian market is developing drastically. Since late October 2011, there have been 25,000 Russian visitors to Cam Ranh in Khanh Hoa Province. In January, there were nine weekly flights carrying passengers from Russia, instead of seven flights as usual. Our partner has decided to perform more flights this summer,” she said.

Though Russia has not become a major source market for Vietnam’s tourism, it is one of the most important markets to seaside destinations like Binh Thuan and Khanh Hoa. Russian tourists account for one third of the total number of international visitors to Binh Thuan, with over 100,000 visits in 2011, and rank second in the top ten markets of Khanh Hoa, after Germany.

Thu said Russian tourists preferred long trips from one to two weeks at coastal resorts. In the past, visitors only came on winter vacations, but now they arrive in summer too.
