HCMC – Vietnam’s Business Confidence Index (BCI) has sharply dropped from 123 points in last year’s third quarter to 116 points, reports the Vietnam News Agency.

This was found in a survey conducted by Vietnam World Vest Base Financial Intelligence Services (WVB FISL) from December 15, 2011 to January 16, 2012. The survey was carried out at 158 enterprises, over 83% of them small and medium-sized, active in 11 key sectors and holding leading positions in brand names, assets, revenue and labor.

Nearly 33% of respondents predicted the local economic situation would remain unchanged this year while some 7.6% believed the situation would worsen. Notably, up to 95.6% of the enterprises surveyed shared a view that this year’s inflation would remain in two-digit territory.

Therefore, some 30% of respondents said they would not increase employment and 7% said they would reduce their work force this year.

About 44% of the surveyed expected no revenue growth, and 12% said they were anxious about a possible revenue drop this year. Still, 65.2% of enterprises said they were holding a positive view on profit growth, while 28.5% thought their profits would be the same and 6.3% were fret over profit decline.

The survey showed 74.5% of respondents would still have difficulty gaining access to capital.
